Safety Check (Travel Report for Minor Field Trip)

Field Trip Overview:
Our field trip and seminar in the Public Safety and Security Command Center (PSSCC) is an exposure for us to the latest technologies used in ensuring the safety of the citizens of Davao City. The PSSCC boasts a modernized conference room, high-definition CCTV cameras, and all the other technologies needed for a safer Davao City.
The CCTV cameras installed around the city can zoom up to 32 times and are controlled through computers in the PSSCC building. The conference room is equipped with microphones like those found in the Senate. Also, through a systematic coordination, the emergency response team situated in the PSSCC is able to respond quickly.
What I liked during our trip is that the people at PSSCC are very accommodating (although they are really strict when it comes to taking photos) to us and they are able to share their expertise and experiences to us.

Manila Adventures (Travel Report for Major Field Trip)

Field Trip Overview:
Our field trip in Manila is designed for us to learn more about the current technologies that are trending today and some of those technologies are found here in Davao. Also, our field trip is designed for us to learn more about the sights and history of the different places in Manila.

DAY _1_
Today, we went for a company visit to the Department of Science and Technology – Science Technology Information Institute (DOST-STII). Then, we attended a seminar which was held inside the Audio-Visual Room. There, the speakers discussed to us many things related to technology and science itself. During the seminar, we were given magazines for further reading.
After the seminar, we took our lunch at Great Eastern Hotel – Aberdeen Court, located in Makati City. After we took our lunch, we proceeded to Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA). Then, we proceeded to the Flood Control Information Center, where we discussed technologies related to flood control and traffic. Then we were toured to the Communications and Command Center, where the traffic enforcers monitor calls, weather, traffic and many more. After the visit, we went to SM Mall of Asia for our malling and shopping. After an enjoyable 2 hours and 30 minutes of strolling and shopping, we then checked in at Kabayan Hotel.
From the discussions we have in those trips, I learned more about the practicality and use of the technologies I have seen especially regarding the NOAA. It seems they are serious in designing technologies that will be of benefit to our countrymen. In other words, they are committed to their jobs despite having limited resources and funds.
What I like about this visit is that the speakers are presenting their ideas and discussions in a matter-of-fact, no-nonsense manner while making sure that we all understand what they are talking about and what they are trying to get across. What I don’t like is the venue because it’s too warm, making it an unsuitable place for discussions.

 DAY _2_

After we had our breakfast at Kabayan Hotel, we then rode our respective buses and went to the University of the Philippines – Diliman Campus for the 10th Philippine Youth Congress Information Technology (Y4IT). After the convention that took a whole day, we then had our shopping at Triangle North Mall (Trinoma).
From the discussions at the convention, I learned about Information Technology and its different fields like webpage design, animation, and many more. I am particularly interested in the field of animation since I believe that where I’m good at.
What I like about the convention is that the venue is comfortable, and we are able to enjoy the discussions of the speakers. The only thing I did not like is that some of the speakers are talking in a very technical and difficult to understand way.

DAY _3_
Today is the day for our technical visits. We first visited the Philippine Long Distance and Telephone Company Innolabat Mandaluyong City. After introductions and a brief talk on the history of PLDT, we were toured on a hallway depicting the history of PLDT in full detail. Then our group was directed to some sort of communications center. After that, we then proceeded to the Acer hub where the staff there showed us the brand new laptops, including one that is well-protected from impact because it’s made from carbon-fiber. After some lengthy discussions and advertisement of their products, we then proceeded to tour the room where we found technologies like the IP phone, and the room that simulates a high-tech home. After the tour at PLDT, we then proceeded to visit the Social Security System in East Avenue, Quezon City. We then had a discussion related to social security matters in the SSS Museum. After that, we proceeded to tour the office and learn more about the technologies used in registering, taking pictures of applicants, and more. After the SSS visit, we had our stop at Intramuros and the famous Luneta Park where our national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal was executed. After a couple moments of strolling we then had our shopping and dinner at Tutuban.
I learned many things about the technologies they used and their practicality. I especially liked the fact that the staff at SSS themselves demonstrated them to us.
What I liked about the visit is that we were able to learn about social security in general and the technologies being used to ease and speed up transactions between staff and clients. The only setback is that the buildings looked so old they would crumble anytime, but overall I enjoyed the trip.

DAY _4_
Our company visit for the day is the SPI Servisoft in Parañaque City. Upon arrival, we learned that the company is still closed. So what we did is wait on the bus. When the company finally opened, we were then directed to the meeting room on the first floor. There, the speaker talked about the history of their company and the showed some AVP’s. After the small talk, we were then toured around the different parts of the company.
After the tour, we then had our packed lunch at our bus. Then we went to Tagaytay for souvenirs. Then we went to Enchanted Kingdom where we had a ride-all-you-can on some of the most fun rides there. After three and a half hours of having fun, we then departed and took our dinner at Taste Asia inside SM Mall of Asia.
What I liked in our visit to SPI Global is that everyone in the company is working as a team and each one is able to keep up with their teammates. Also, the speaker and the tour guide did their best to keep our energy levels up. And the tour itself is very enjoyable. The only thing I don’t like is the sometimes boring and uninteresting AVP’s that they are showing us.

DAY _5_

This day is the last day of our field trip. Before leaving the hotel, we checked out. The last company we visited is the JP Morgan and Chase Company in Bonifacio Global, Taguig. After having free refreshments from the vending machines and taking our name cards, we were oriented on the rules of the company, especially on the taking of pictures. We took an elevator to the 7th floor. We were then directed to the Audio Visual Room where the speakers showed to us a presentation of the company. After a lengthy discussion which involved question-and-answer with the speaker, we were divided into four groups. I belonged to the third group. Our guide then toured us on the 15th floor where we toured the different training rooms including what they called the “Star Wars room” because they said the board room was inspired by the movie itself. Then after an enjoyable tour we then proceeded to the ground floor where we have a group picture taken with the staff who guided us throughout our company visit. After these, we then left and went back to the hotel for our lunch. After we had taken our lunch, we then had our shopping at Baclaran. After shopping, we then proceeded to the airport where we waited for our flight going back to Davao.
The company visit we had at JP Morgan and Chase Company is an example of companies who strictly wanted to maintain the utmost secrecy and I commend them for that. I learned about business in general in the discussions we had before our office tours commenced.
I like the way the speakers spoke at the discussions because they spoke to us in a matter-of-fact, no-nonsense tone and at the same time they try to keep our energy levels up. One thing I don’t like is their utmost secrecy because there’s no way for people to know what they are up to and because the company is already well known around the world.
